Vintage Candied Apples

Vintage Candied Apples

Tender baked apples coated in a bright cinnamon-candy syrup made with classic Red Hots. This nostalgic side dish or dessert can be served warm, chilled, or topped with vanilla ice cream.

INGREDIENTS:

7 medium apples peeled, cored, and cut into 1/4-inch slices

1 box Red Hots cinnamon candy 5.5 oz

1 1/2 cups water use slightly less for a thicker syrup

vanilla ice cream optional, for serving

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat the oven to 350°F.
Arrange the peeled and sliced apples evenly in a 9×13-inch glass baking dish.
Sprinkle the Red Hots evenly over the apples.
Pour the water over the apples and candy.
Bake uncovered for 45 minutes.
Carefully stir the apples every 15 minutes so the melted candy coats them evenly.
Remove the dish from the oven when the apples are tender and the cinnamon syrup has thickened slightly.
Let the apples cool for about 10 minutes before serving warm, or refrigerate and serve chilled.
Top with vanilla ice cream if serving as a dessert.
