Homemade Doughnuts

INGREDIENTS:

(Makes 12 doughnuts)

For the Dough:

3 ½ cups (420g) all-purpose flour (+ extra for dusting)

1/3 cup (65g) granulated sugar

1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) instant yeast

1 tsp salt

1 cup (240ml) warm milk (~110°F/43°C)

2 large eggs

1/4 cup (57g) unsalted butter, melted

1 tsp vanilla extract

For Frying:

4 cups (960ml) vegetable oil (or enough for 2-inch depth)

For Toppings:

1 cup (120g) powdered sugar + 2 tbsp milk (glaze)

1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar + 1 tsp cinnamon (cinnamon sugar)

Chocolate ganache, sprinkles, or jam filling (optional)

DIRECTIONS:

1. Make the Dough

In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.

Add warm milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.

Knead for 5 mins (by hand or mixer) until smooth and elastic.

2. First Rise

Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour (or until doubled).

3. Shape & Cut

Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness.

Use a doughnut cutter (or a glass + shot glass for the hole).

Let shaped doughnuts rest 10 mins while heating oil.

4. Fry (or Bake!)

Frying Method:

Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry doughnuts 1-2 mins per side until golden. Drain on paper towels.

Baking Method:

Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 8-10 mins on a parchment-lined tray.

5. Top & Enjoy!

Dip warm doughnuts in glaze, cinnamon sugar, or your favorite topping.
