Ground Beef and Gravy Over Mashed Potatoes
INGREDIENTS:
For the Gravy:
1 lb ground beef
1 medium onion diced
2 cloves garlic minced
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tsp thyme optional
1 cup frozen peas and carrots optional
For the Mashed Potatoes:
2 lbs potatoes peeled and quartered
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup butter
Salt and pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS:
Step 1: Prepare the Mashed PotatoesPlace potatoes in a large pot, cover with water, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes, until tender.Drain the potatoes and return to the pot. Add milk and butter, then mash until smooth. Season with salt and pepper. Cover to keep warm.
Step 2: Cook the Ground Beef
In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it up as it cooks (7-10 minutes). Drain excess fat.
Add diced onion and minced garlic; sauté until onions are translucent (3-5 minutes).
Step 3: Make the Gravy
Sprinkle flour over the beef and onions, stirring to combine. Cook for 2 minutes.
Gradually stir in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and thyme. Simmer for 5 minutes until thickened. Add frozen peas and carrots, if using, and cook until heated through.
