INGREDIENTS:
For the Dough
3 1/4 cups (410 g) all-purpose flour
1/4 cup (50 g) granulated sugar
1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup (120 ml) warm milk (110°F/45°C)
1/4 cup (60 g) unsalted butter, melted
1 large egg
For the Orange Filling
1/2 cup (100 g) granulated sugar
2 tbsp orange zest (from about 2 oranges)
1/4 cup (60 g) unsalted butter, softened
For the Orange Glaze
1 cup (120 g) powdered sugar
2-3 tbsp fresh orange juice
1 tsp orange zest
DIRECTIONS:
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
Add the melted butter, egg, salt, and 2 cups of flour. Mix until combined, then gradually add the remaining flour until a soft dough forms.
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5-7 minutes.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
