Fried Strawberry Cheesecake Sandwiches
INGREDIENTS:
For the Sandwiches:
8 slices of white bread (or brioche for extra richness)
1 cup cream cheese (softened)
1/4 cup granulated sugar (optional, for added sweetness)
1/2 cup strawberry jam (or fresh strawberry compote)
1 large egg (beaten)
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup breadcrumbs (panko works great for extra crunch)
Vegetable oil (for frying)
Optional Toppings:
Powdered sugar
Whipped cream
Vanilla ice cream
Fresh strawberries
DIRECTIONS:
Step 1: Prepare the Bread
Using a rolling pin, gently flatten each slice of bread to make it easier to fry and create a uniform thickness. This also helps prevent the filling from oozing out during frying.
Step 2: Assemble the Sandwiches
Spread a generous layer of softened cream cheese on one side of each slice of bread. If desired, mix the cream cheese with granulated sugar for added sweetness. Spoon a dollop of strawberry jam onto half of the slices, spreading it evenly over the cream cheese. Top with the remaining slices of bread, cream cheese side down, to create sandwiches.
Step 3: Coat the Sandwiches
Set up a breading station with three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with the beaten egg, and one with breadcrumbs. Dip each sandwich into the flour, shaking off any excess. Next, dip it into the beaten egg, ensuring it’s fully coated. Finally, press it into the breadcrumbs, making sure the entire surface is evenly covered.
Step 4: Fry the Sandwiches
Heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot (around 350°F/175°C), carefully place the breaded sandwiches in the skillet. Fry for 2–3 minutes per side , or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the sandwiches to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
Step 5: Serve and Enjoy
Dust the sandwiches with powdered sugar, and serve warm with optional toppings like whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, or fresh strawberries. Slice them in half for a beautiful presentation and enjoy the gooey, crunchy goodness!
