Fried Cinnamon Apple Rings
INGREDIENTS:
For the Apple Rings:
2 large apples (such as Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Fuji)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cornstarch
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional, for extra warmth)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk (or buttermilk for extra richness)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Vegetable oil (for frying)
For Serving:
Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Caramel sauce (optional, for dipping)
Honey or chocolate sauce (optional, for drizzling)
DIRECTIONS:
Step 1: Prepare the Apples
Wash, peel, and core the apples. Slice them into 1/4-inch thick rings, ensuring each ring has a hole in the center. Pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
Step 2: Make the Batter
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
Gradually add the milk and vanilla extract, stirring until the batter is smooth and free of lumps.
Step 3: Heat the Oil
Pour vegetable oil into a deep skillet or saucepan, filling it about 1–2 inches deep. Heat the oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C) . Use a deep-fry thermometer to monitor the temperature.
Step 4: Coat and Fry the Apple Rings
Dip each apple ring into the batter, ensuring it’s fully coated. Allow any excess batter to drip off.
Carefully place the battered apple ring into the hot oil. Fry for 2–3 minutes per side , or until golden brown and crispy.
Remove the fried rings with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
Step 5: Dust and Serve
Dust the warm apple rings with powdered sugar while they’re still hot.
Serve immediately with caramel sauce, honey, or chocolate sauce for dipping, if desired. Enjoy the crispy, cinnamon-spiced goodness!
