Famous Orange Cake
INGREDIENTS:
Serves 8–10
For the Cake:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil (or melted butter)
3 large eggs , at room temperature
1/2 cup fresh orange juice (about 2 oranges)
Zest of 1 large orange
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
Pinch of salt
Optional Glaze:
1 cup powdered sugar
2–3 tbsp fresh orange juice (adjust for desired consistency)
Zest of 1 orange , for garnish
DIRECTIONS:
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) . Grease a round or square cake pan (8×8 inches works well) and line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
Step 2: Mix the Batter
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar and eggs until smooth and slightly frothy.
Add the vegetable oil (or melted butter), orange juice, and orange zest. Whisk until fully combined.
Sift in the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the cake light and fluffy.
Step 3: Bake
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it evenly.
Bake for 25–30 minutes , or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
Step 4: Cool and Glaze
Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes , then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
If using a glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar and orange juice until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cake and sprinkle with orange zest for a beautiful finish.
