INGREDIENTS:

Dry Ingredients:

3 cups all-purpose flour

1½ cups sugar

3 teaspoons baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

¾ teaspoon Apple Pie Spice

Wet Ingredients:

2 large eggs

1 cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 tablespoons butter, softened

DIRECTIONS:

Prepare the Frying Oil

Heat the Oil: Pour oil into a deep skillet or Dutch oven to a depth of about 3 inches. Heat the oil to 375°F (190°C). It’s important to use a thermometer to ensure the oil stays at the correct temperature for frying.

Mix the Dry Ingredients

Fry Until Golden Brown: If your pot is not very large, you may need to fry the fritters one at a time. As they cook, the fritters will rise to the top. When the first side is golden brown, use a spatula to carefully turn them over and fry the other side.

Drain Excess Oil: Once both sides are browned, remove the fritters from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.

Add the Finishing Touches

Dust with Confectioners’ Sugar: While the fritters are still warm, generously dust them with confectioners’ sugar. Alternatively, you can prepare a simple glaze.

Prepare the Optional Glaze

Mix the Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together confectioners’ sugar and a small amount of milk or water until you reach a smooth, pourable consistency.

Glaze the Fritters: Drizzle the glaze over the warm fritters, allowing it to set slightly before serving.
