Beef and Broccoli Lo Mein
INGREDIENTS:
For the Sauce:
1/4 cup soy sauce (low-sodium preferred)
2 tablespoons oyster sauce
1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon cornstarch (mixed with 2 tablespoons water for thickening)
1 clove garlic (minced)
1 teaspoon grated ginger
For the Lo Mein:
8 oz lo mein noodles (or spaghetti as a substitute)
1 lb flank steak or sirloin (thinly sliced against the grain)
2 cups broccoli florets
2 tablespoons vegetable oil (divided)
Optional garnish : Sesame seeds, chopped green onions, or red pepper flakes
DIRECTIONS:
Step 1: Cook the Noodles
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the lo mein noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside. If using spaghetti, cook until just tender.
Step 2: Prepare the Sauce
In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, brown sugar, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Set aside.
Step 3: Stir-Fry the Beef
Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced beef and cook for 2–3 minutes, or until browned but not fully cooked through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
Step 4: Cook the Broccoli
In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the broccoli florets and stir-fry for 3–4 minutes, or until tender-crisp. If needed, add a splash of water to help steam the broccoli …
