Banana Bread Brownies combine the moist richness of banana bread with the fudgy texture of brownies, all topped with a luscious brown butter frosting. This hybrid dessert is perfect for satisfying both banana bread and brownie cravings in one delicious bite.
INGREDIENTS:
For the Brownies:
1 ½ cups sugar
1 cup sour cream
½ cup butter softened
2 large eggs
4 ripe bananas mashed
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
¾ teaspoon salt
½ cup chopped walnuts optional
For the Brown Butter Frosting:
½ cup butter
4 cups powdered sugar
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
3 tablespoons milk plus more if needed
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease and flour a 15×10-inch jelly roll pan or line with parchment paper.
Mix Batter: In a large mixing bowl, cream together 1 ½ cups sugar, 1 cup sour cream, ½ cup softened butter, and 2 eggs until smooth. Blend in 4 mashed bananas and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract.
Add Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together 2 cups flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, and ¾ teaspoon salt. Gradually add to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in ½ cup chopped walnuts, if using.
Bake Brownies: Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Prepare Frosting: In a saucepan, melt ½ cup butter over medium heat, cooking until it turns deep golden brown. Remove from heat and whisk in 4 cups powdered sugar, 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract, and 3 tablespoons milk until smooth. Adjust consistency with more milk if needed.
Frost Brownies: While the brownies are still warm, spread the brown butter frosting evenly over the top. Allow to cool completely before cutting into squares.
