INGREDIENTS:
For the Hamburger Steaks:
1 1/2 lbs (680g) ground beef
1/2 cup (50g) breadcrumbs
1 large egg
1/4 cup (60ml) milk
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
2 tbsp (30ml) olive oil (for frying)
For the Gravy:
2 tbsp (30g) butter
2 tbsp (15g) all-purpose flour
2 cups (480ml) beef broth
1/4 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/4 tsp thyme
Salt and pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS:
Prepare the Hamburger Steaks:
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
Divide the mixture into 4-6 equal portions and shape them into oval patties.
Cook the Steaks:
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sear the hamburger steaks for 3-4 minutes on each side until browned but not fully cooked. Remove and set aside.
Make the Gravy:
In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until lightly browned.
Gradually whisk in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 3-5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Assemble and Bake:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the seared hamburger steaks in a baking dish. Pour the prepared gravy over the top, ensuring the steaks are well-covered.
Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes, or until the steaks are fully cooked and the gravy is bubbling.
Serve:
Let the bake rest for 5 minutes before serving. Pair with mashed potatoes, green beans, or crusty bread for a complete meal.
