Slow Cooker Amish Cube Steak with Brown Gravy

Slow Cooker Amish Cube Steak with Brown Gravy is an easy, comforting supper with fork-tender beef, soft potatoes, onions, and rich savory gravy. Layer everything in the slow cooker and let it cook low and slow until the meat practically falls apart.
INGREDIENTS:
cooking spray or oil for greasing the slow cooker
1 1/2 to 2 pounds cube steak about 4 pieces
2 10.5-ounce cans condensed brown gravy
1/2 to 1 cup water use enough to make the gravy pourable but still thick
4 medium russet or yellow potatoes peeled and sliced about 1/2-inch thick
1 large yellow onion sliced, not too thin
1 1-ounce packet dry onion soup mix
black pepper or Worcestershire sauce optional, to taste; use about 1 tablespoon Worcestershire if adding before cooking
DIRECTIONS:
Spray or lightly oil the inside of a 6-quart slow cooker to make cleanup easier.
Spread the sliced potatoes across the bottom of the slow cooker, then scatter the sliced onion over the potatoes.
Lay the cube steaks over the onions and potatoes, overlapping slightly if needed while keeping them mostly flat.
Sprinkle the dry onion soup mix evenly over the raw cube steaks.
In a bowl or large measuring cup, whisk together the condensed brown gravy and 1/2 cup water to start, adding more water as needed until the gravy is pourable but still thick.
Pour the gravy mixture over the steaks so it runs down into the potatoes and onions and mostly covers the meat.
Cover and cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours, or on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours, until the cube steak is fork-tender …
